Hellbound: Hellraiser II
Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988)

IMDB rating: 5.80

Plot: After having her father and perverse stepmother killed by the cenobites, Kirsty Cotton (Ashley Lawrence) is sent to a psychiatric hospital. Even after trying to convince the authorities of what really happened with her family, nobody believes in her version of the history and they decide to place her in the institute, so that she rests and relaxes a little bit. The hospital is commanded by a brilliant and strange psychiatrist, Dr. Channard (Kenneth Cranham), who has been looking for the key for another dimension for a long time. The only person who believes in Kirsty is a young and kind assistant of Dr. Channard, called Kyle MacRae (William Hope). Following Kirsty’s version of the story, Channard put his hands on the bloodstained mattress where her stepmother Julia (Clare Higgins, from the first Hellraiser) died, Channard decides to resurrect her, killing his patients and offering them as food for Julia. She returns without skin, and she decides to help Channard to bring the forces of the evil, but the plans of the two will be disturbed by Kirsty, who wants to end at once with the cenobites, and for Kyle, who doesn’t want to see Kirsty being hurt…

All welcome did anyone like this religious movies?
Did anyone like these movies?
Hellraiser, if so who was your favourite character.
or did you like Hellbound Hellraiser II better?
The Life of Brian, Dogma and the Meaning of life?
Also protestants can you walk into a drug store with your
head held high and ask the pharmacist for a box of condoms without shame?
I am being cheeky with that but I would like to know just the same. Thanks for your answers in advance.
To all those religious people that answered this you really don’t know what you have missed.
I got a lot of great answers here.
But I can only vote for one of you.
So thanks for your wonderful answers.

Life of Brian was one of the best movies made about that period of time.

Although it is a comedy, they got the sentiment of the times down very well. There are soooo many little things that point out major problems with the Gospel story that you have to watch it over and over again to catch them all.

One of my favorites is the dooms day prophets all lined up prophesying. If you listen to what they are proclaiming, you will get a great laugh, but then compare it to NT prophesies about the return of Christ. Even funnier.

Never seen the Hellraiser series.

But I love MP movies! And Dogma was ok, however watching it with my dad the first time was a bit uncomfortable…

I never asked for them. I walked to the shelf and got them and took them to the register.

Dogma, the life of brian and the meaning of life are amongst the all time classics in my book …

But what about the holy grail ? Wasn’t that also a religious movie (especially the holy hand grenade part) ?
Medard Le Meteque | Aug 27, 2007

"Hellraiser" was not exactly a religious movie. The Cenobites were really BEYOND "good" and "evil".

I enjoyed "The Life of Brian" and "Dogma". Never got around to seeing "The Meaning of Life".

Don’t need condoms anymore — married, with vasectomy now..
The Reverend Soleil | Aug 27, 2007

Try "The Passion of the Christ". They say it is 99% accurate. Most people just know of the Crucifixion of Christ, but not the torment he went through before being nailed to the cross. If you like "Hellraiser", then see a movie about the defeat of Hell.
Samuel Crow777 | Aug 27, 2007

never saw hellraiser… And all the other movies were funny.
You can’t actually believe what they’re saying it’s true cuz it’s Hollywood and it’s also a comedic satire.

And yes.. in fact i can. Because it’s better to use a condom and birth control than have an STD and an abortion, right?
daiquirikiss | Aug 27, 2007

I rather enjoyed the Life of Brian and Dogma. I haven’t seen the other movies, and probably won’t see Hellraiser – I’m not into that genre. It’s always interesting to watch "religious" themed movies. It gives me an insight into the culture and how it views religion.
Swish | Aug 27, 2007

I heard one of my religious co-workers talking about the makers of the life of Brian going to hell…so I had to watch it. It was good.
Quimby | Aug 27, 2007

Oh, i love Monty Python!

And Dogma had a great message at the end. I love that movie!!!!!
willodrgn | Aug 27, 2007

I LOVE the movies "Life of Brian," "Meaning of Life," and "Dogma." Great movies. In Dogma, I especially love both Bud Cort AND Alanis Morrisette being cast as God.

Hellraiser… eh… didn’t do much for me. The violence and all was too over-the-top for me.

I also love the movie Bruce Almighty! Evan Almighty was okay, but not as great as Bruce.

R&P: Remember the Rollins Interview I Promised?
I want to thank those who participated in providing question suggestions the last time I posted my Henry Rollins question. Even though I extended it as long as i could, I decided it was unfair to pick a "best answer" since you all were awesome in providing questions.

So, here I am posting a raw transcript of my interview with Henry Rollins which is yet to be pulished in a couple of weeks. If you see your question answered, pat yourself on the back :)

Interview with Henry Rollins: February 2, 3:42 p.m. Mountain Time

Q: Lenny Bruce, Brother Theodore, George Carlin: Did any of these outspoken performers play any influential role in your spoken-word technique or philosphy?
A: Bruce and Carlin certainly have given me a lot of courage. When you consider what Bruce got shut down for, he is a true child of the First Ammendment. Carlin made me understand the power of words and I always admired how long he stayed working. I know that I will have not nearly the span of Carlin but people like him, Lenny Bruce and Brother Theodore are so rare.

Q: At what age did you discover your "wayward/insubordinate" self? When did you probably start questioning authoritative society (e.g. Orwell’s "Animal Farm" is what did it for me in fifth grade) …
A: The aforementioned as well as The Clash, The Sex Pistols and my friend Ian MacKaye made me see things differently. I guess all of that started happening in my early teen years.

Q: Do you think Pop Culture has dumbed down our nation?
A: If it has, it can’t be a new phenomenon. Pop music has been with us for decades. I think that corporate media has done Americans a great disservice in that they have deprived America with any consistent degree of transparency. I think we are not as religiously fundamental as other nations in spite of all the attempts to make us so.

Q: It’s every liberal’s dream to tell Ann Coulter to "shut the fuck up". I recall once, in your "Letters From Henry" portion of The Henry Rollins show, you directed a letter to her; how gratifying was that? Ever get a response?
A: It didn’t do anything for me, really. Ms. Coulter is just a professional wrestler who has not nearly the fan base that many would think. I have never heard from her. I think at one point, Fox News barked at me but no one really watches Fox.

Q: I have heard stories that you and Ian MacKaye met while working at a Hagen Daaz? Is this true? If so, how old were you both? What’s one of the earliest memories that crosses your mind?
A: I met Ian behind his mother’s house while riding my bike. This was many years before I was working at the ice cream place. I have known Ian since I was about 12 or 13. I am 49 now. Ian is the first person of my age group that had his own opinion that I was aware of. I was nothing like that.

Q: You are both credited with sparking the "straight edge" movement, so how did you feel about singing songs like "Six Pack" and "TV Party" during your time in Black Flag, even though you don’t drink alcohol or engage in that sort of behavior?"
A: I had nothing to do with straight edge really. The songs you mention are parodies as the lyrics make obviously clear.

Q: "Eye Scream" was probably my favorite of the books that I’ve read, that you wrote. There was something very "beat". Did any of the City Lights Books roster of writers influence you?
A: I tried to read Burroughs and could never complete a book. The Beats never grabbed me besides Ginsberg’s Howl, which I thought was incredible. The thing I wrote in Eye Scream called Everything, is a tribute to Howl.

Q: Being a publisher yourself, have you ever had the chance to get to know Lawrence Ferlinghetti?
A: No.

Q: Jello Biafra, even Hunter S. Thompson, who followed a somewhat punk ethic, attempted politics. Is it within the realm of possibility for you to ever consider, maybe down the line, running for some sort of office to change things directly (or would that go against the grain of what you stand for?)
A: I have not the intellect or stamina to get any traction in that arena. I like being a private citizen, it gives me a lot of lattitude.

Q: When you played the role of AJ Weston in the FX television series "Sons of Anarchy", did you have to "empathize" to a certain degree with the white supremist’s character to play the part convincingly? Did it ever disgust you?
A: No. It’s just work and I do it the best I can. I know that I am acting and that at the end of the day, I get in my car and leave the set.

Q: Do you mind getting killed off in most of the movie roles you do? Any upcoming movie roles?
A: I don’t mind at all. I am grateful for the work. I work for a living. I am not an artist.

Q: Details magazine named you Man of the Year in 1994. Did you hesitate to accept this title? Or was it an honor?
A: It wasn’t a title they give out yearly, it was just something they put on the cover. I was happy for the coverage and hoped it would help my band.
holy crap! haha. it’s only a matter of time before its pulled …. forgot about the Ann Coulter expletive LOL

Thanks everyone for your input
Hey Shades, maybe we ought to re-post this on R&S, and we’ll get some foaming-a-the-mouth responses over his Fox News remark. LOL

GREAT Qs & As, Ms. Mach!!!

Very impressive, the amount of connections with other artist’s works of art that you thought to connect with Rollins as his possible influences (and anti-influences ;-) …from City Lights Books to Jello Biafra, George Carlin to Ann Coulter.

LOL at the Ann Coulter answer… srsly, does anyone you respect intellectually watch Fox?? No.

**edit**
haha! now that would just be looking for trouble ;-D

What is the value of K3?
About half of the sodium carbonate produced is used in making glass products because it lowers the melting point of sand, the major component of glass. When sodium carbonate is added to water it hydrolyses according to the following reactions.

K1: CO3^2- (aq) + H2O (l) – HCO3^- (aq) + OH^- (aq)
K2: HCO3^- (aq) + H2O (l) – H2CO3 (aq) + OH^- (aq)

These can be combined to yield
K3: CO3^2- (aq) + 2H2O (l) – H2CO3 (aq) + 2OH^- (aq)

What is the value of K3?

a. K1 x K2
b. K1 / K2
c. K1 + K2
d. K1 – K2

Am I cut out for acting, in a very strange way, I cannot tell, please read my story and share your opinions?
Dear Reader…..please have patience with the incoherent babbling I am about to engage in. I am going to ramble, but bear with me people. I am confused. Am I cut out for acting, My claim- oh boy- here it goes. Ever since I was a little girl, I have watched movies and idolised the characters. With my dad, I’d watch movies like Back to the Future, Big Trouble in Little China, The Quick and the Dead, and any fifties movie ( I especially enjoy the Elvis films) and I would soak it in. Then afterwards, I would be excited to go into my room, stand in front of the mirror and act out the parts of the people I had just seen. I still do that today, being a young teenage girl. When I was younger, people called me a zesty firecracker, they saw me acting. Like it was my calling. That has washed away with age, due to the self conscious issues to where people don’t know who I am. But nonetheless I have always loved movies, and I find myself- I have done it thirteen times today- just stand in a hallway and silently say a line from a movie- or one of my own design- and just get into character. I know,I know, I have some shameful tactics but I cannot help myself. I love everything about films, so sometimes I just really believe I am made for the big screen. But to add some negatives; I have absolutely no confience, I cannot perform in front of anyone, not my friends, not my family. I am EXTREMELY hesitant to join drama club because I find school plays and musicals beyond cheesy and stupid. I don’t have that ability of self love that many others have, plus probably ( if i am not good at all) absolutely no capability to hold a character correctly, talk slow enough- I don’t understand, apparently I talk too fast for people to understand me all the time, and I just hate it. In a way it is fate’s way of saying I can never do anything verbally, and that sadens me more than killing puppies- so maybe I have no skill whatsoever. Tell me what you think. Does someone with only passion and personal "skill" like being by myself to act, have the ability to be an actress?

i think that you should join the drama club in order to 1 gain experience 2 to get feed back on how well you are acting and in turn gain confidence and skill. you should follow your passion because if it makes you happy then why not make a career off of it. :P

wolf71288 | Nov 10, 2009

Good story you sound like one of my friends. ;) see, she always wants to be in plays and stuff though not as a main part but she is never really that confident. She doesn’t speak so loud and stuff, but she’s always asking my friend and I where she can try out for a play. If you have any friends that are into acting, ask them to give you tips and I’m sure they’ll be more than happy too ( us actors like being asked stuff about our art ;) ) you sound like you could be an awesome actor!! Join drama club! Who knows? You just might be a new star and learn to love plays and musicals. Oh, and that speaking to fast thing? I have the same problem. It helps if you try to preunciate everything you say (but with emotion) then say it again until you get to normal speed. That helped me anyways ;) good luck!!!
KayHey | Nov 10, 2009

Imagine that it wasn’t acting, but say, medicene – that you always pretended to be a doctor or a nurse when you were little. To realise your dream as you grew up, you know that you would have to go to college and study and learn skills to be a doctor or nurse. The same applies to acting – if you really want to do it, you have to take that big step and have a go. Join that drama club, try out for the school show – in short, take those first few steps towards becoming an actor. Now once you try it, you might find that it really isn’t for you, but you still have your love of movies and there are so many other jobs in the industry that you could do – technical jobs, costume, scenery, make up, hair, or administrative work. You could still be part of it without necessarily being an actor. Good luck with whateer you choose to do.

For any of you star wars fans out there.?
In star war episode II attack of the clone after the battle of Genesis Yoda uses a power in which he "absorbers" Darth Taranus’s, Count Duku’s force lightning and throughs it back at him.

Is that really what happened?
If so was that a force power and do you know what it is called?
Or was it electric judgment that he threw out?

You’re right in that Yoda did indeed use the ability to "Force Absorb" Dooku’s lighting. He then used the "Force Push" to throw / push it back at him.
